Joy Larkcom

This collection comprises a set of colour photographic slides, taken by the horticultural writer Joy Larkcom during her research trips to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 1985, and again to China in 1994. Her findings from the first trip went on to inform her book ‘Oriental Vegetables’ published in 1991.

The images selected here cover her four-day visit to Hong Kong in November 1985. Her time was mainly spent observing market gardening in Lantau Island and visiting the arboretum and nurseries at Shing Mun Country Park in the New Territories. She wrote about the visit in an article, ‘The Hong Kong country parks’ for the December 1986 edition of the Royal Horticultural Society Journal.
